The sector has significantly contributed in making the seafood sector a strong generator of foreign exchange. The Freeport is extensively used by seafood operators to maintain the cold supply chain.

To give a boost to the logistics and distribution activities in Mauritius, the government of Mauritius is aiming to develop new sectors of activities including the shipping and aviation hubs.
